read my mind

Saturday, June 25

My first week back in camp was certainly eventful, I'd say. In fact, it makes me miss my recourse days. I try to remind myself that a lot of the other guys from my platoon are going through much worse than I am, to keep myself going. It is hard sometimes, when you're dealing with an unreasonable superior.

I'm also pondering over my story right now, thinking about the format of narration. I'm also worried the style might be a little too Audrey Niffenegger from 'The Time Traveler's Wife'. The guide book on writing advises not to copy style too much, just to write in a way that is comfortable to you. Although the style that I'm currently using is very comfortable for me, I find that it is very similar to the above-mentioned. I'm puzzled. I am quite confident about the prologue though, maybe because it doesn't really involve the main character(s).

I'm going to try and find inspiration wherever I can find it, and hopefully the story will become more solid and tangible, and not just a spark of inspiration in the air.

I've just read from this book I bought, that when you have an idea for a story, you mustn't spill all about it to your friends. Otherwise, you'll kill the story, 'cause there's a feeling of wearing it out totally. So, for the idea of my story, I'm going to keep mum, like I'm keeping a huge secret to myself. Shouldn't be too difficult for me... heh.

I've got a secret...

My head hurts...

Howe Yuan and Kaiquan came over last night to watch Howe Yuan's copy of 'Sin City'. I was hoping for a quiet night with 'Before Sunrise' and 'Before Sunset', but no. That show is one gory flick. Moved on to 'Friends' afterward, but they fell asleep watching it. So I turned it off, and we ended up talking, with the music playing from my iPod as background music. Think we slept at about 2.

Anyway, met Howe Yuan again this afternoon in town, and walked our usual route. Borders had a 30% discount with a cut-out coupon (Friday's Life, check it out, discount ends Sunday), so I bought a book on how to write a novel. Had some ideas on how to open one of my stories, so I started writing. The narration is very Audrey Niffenegger in 'The Time Traveler's Wife', but that's just for the prologue. Hope I can do it.

Till next time...
